Ellomae "Ellie" Evitts of St. Johns, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend extraordinaire passed away Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the age of 80 after a brief illness. Ellie was born January 11, 1927 in Ithaca, Michigan the oldest child of Ira and Jerrine (Coffin) Cassady. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler and past president of the Ladies Aid. Ellie retired from the St. Johns School System after12 years as a bus driver. She enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble, doing crossword puzzles and needlework. Ellie was an avid bowler and was a member of several leagues and the Lansing Women's Bowling Association for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially sitting on daughter Kit's deck. Ellie married Marvin Evitts on September 9, 1945 and they enjoyed 50 years together until his death in 1996. She was also predeceased by a brother, Dean; sons-in-law Dick Adams and Terry Cornwell and this past August, daughter Denise "Kit" Barclay. Surviving are five daughters, Diane (Jerry) Sharick and Dorothy Cornwell all of St. Johns, Dolores (Don) Johnson of Lansing, Deb (Rick) Louchart of Florida, Darlene (Doug) Hufnagel of Ovid; two sons, Don of St. Johns, Dale (Judy) of Middleton; son-in-law Steven Barclay of St. Johns; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn (Adrian) LaBonnville of Frankfort, MI. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422 with Pastor Paul M. Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday 2-8 pm and Saturday 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
