Jean Ione Gibson died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the age of 92. She was born August 22, 1926 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of John and Nellie (Foley) Farrier. Jean earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Western Michigan University and taught in several country schools in Clinton County before becoming employed by St. Johns Public Schools retiring with 21 years of service. Jean collected Shawnee pottery, enjoyed traveling and especially loved spending winters in Texas. She assisted her husband, Melvin operate the Gibson family farm which has been in the Gibson family for over 180 years. On December 19, 1948 she married Melvin Gibson and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2014. She was also predeceased by a son, Ted and a son-in-law, Michael Pettigrew. Surviving are two daughters, Paula Pettigrew and Beckie Price; two sons, Tod and Lon (Renee’) Gibson; daughter-in-law, Cristina Gibson; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a special nephew, Robert Ridenour. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Interment will follow at DeWitt Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral, Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
