John M. "Bud" Vaniman, 100, passed away on March 10, 2018 at Sparrow Clinton Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. He was born on January 28, 1918 In Ovid, Michigan the son of John and Blanche (Metherd) Vaniman. Bud graduated from Ovid High School in 1935 and was married to Barbara Upton on December 20, 1944. She preceded him in death on April 24, 1999. He owned and operated a registered Holstein dairy farm for many years in Ovid. He loved music and dancing, enjoyed a good joke and was a voracious reader.
Surviving are his daughters, Linda (Daniel) Higgins of Longmont, Colorado and Dawn (Craig) Thornton of Hudson, Ohio; grandchildren Kyle Thornton of Brooklyn, New York, Blake Thornton of Chicago, Illinois; sister Anne Byrnes of Ovid and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law Maurine (John) Stanton, Elnore (LaMott) Field, Frances (Robert) Gumaer, Ilene (Joseph) Clark, Donna (Herbert) Smith and Larry Brynes.
