Rosie A. Schomisch, 85 passed away at Grace Haven Assisted Living Center on Thursday, September 26, 2018. Rosie was born on April 17, 1933 in Gratiot County the daughter of John and Bertha (Augustine) Ujlaky. She graduated from Elsie High School and worked at Federal-Mogul, where she met her husband, Lester J . Schomisch. They were married on February 20, 1954 in Bannister, MI. They moved to Fowler Michigan where Rosie settled into her life as homemaker, wife and mother. They later moved to their farm in St. Johns, MI. Lester passed away in 1983. Later in life, Rosie worked in the St. Johns High School cafeteria and in Dietary Services at Hazel Findlay Country Manor.
Rosie was known as a fantastic cook, decorator of beautiful and delicious cakes, and baker of wonderful kolaches. A plate of Rosie's kolaches, or other baked goods, was always a welcomed gift! While her children were young Rosie spent time as a 4-H leader and loved teaching her klds to polka around the kitchen table. She enjoyed the companionship of going to the Clinton County Senior Center, bowling, playing cards and playing board games with friends. She also enjoyed crafts such as sewing, knitting, and crocheting.
Survivors are her children, Larry (Renee) Schomisch of St. Johns, Diane (Don) Bashore of Prudenville, MI, Sharon (Steve) Bassette of St. Johns, and John Schomisch of Houghton Lake. Grandchildren, Ryan Schomisch, Dan (Leigha Cline) Bashore, Chad Schomisch, Dana (Robb) Stevens, Amy (Rick) Lovegrove, Steve (Nicole) Bassette, and Megan Church. She had several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, daughter, Linda Lyons, sister Helen Gazda and brothers Richard and Emil Ujlaky.
At Rosie's request, there will be no funeral mass. However, mass in Rosie's name will be said at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Linden Street in St. Johns, on Oct. 11 at 8:30 a.m.; Jan. 12, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.; March 3 at noon, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. and mass for both Lester and Rosie on May 11 at 5:00.
