Theodore A. Vail died Friday, April 20, 2018 at the age of 90. He was born November 4, 1927 in St. Johns, MI the son of Ward and Henrietta (Palmer) Vail. Ted was a former member of First Congregational Church in St. Johns and was deeply involved with the Mt. Rest Cemetery Mausoleum Restoration. Ted was a third generation mint farmer, first here in Mid-Michigan and also in Wisconsin. He was a member of the Mint Growers Association and the Muck Farmers Association. Ted married Mary Jane Halfmann in September of 1950 and she preceded him in death in 2003. On November 1, 2007 he married Marceda (Harper) and she survives him. Also surviving are his children, Thomas (Vickie) Vail of Hancock, MN and Susan (Edward) Mayer of Fall Creek, WI; grandchildren, Danielle Heisler-Wodill, Dustin Heisler, Sarah Christensen, Jessica Lingscheit and Dylan Vail; two great granddaughters, Alise and Kalena Christensen; a sister, Pauline Warren; step-children, Linda (Lloyd) Shobe, Tom (Caroll) Harper, Dave (Diane) Harper and Dean Harper. He was also predeceased by sisters and brothers-in- law, Jean (Bob) Rand, Virginia (Bob) Teich and Mel Warren and stepson, Steve Harper. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2018 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Betty Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 11:00 AM until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Mt. Rest Cemetery Mausoleum Restoration.
